Lancombe Country Cottages provides an ideal centre for touring not only West Dorset, with its many and varied attractions, but the whole county. The area is famous for its walks, and keen fishermen can experience the delight of casting from the unique Chesil Beach. Course and trout fishing are also popular. Fleet Air Arm Museum, Ilchester
The Fleet Air Arm Museum is the only British museum sited next to an operational military airfield. The Museum covers 6.5 acres, has more than 40 aircraft on display with as many again in storage or refurbishment. It is now one of the largest aviation museums in the world.
Abbotsbury Sub Tropical Gardens, Abbotsbury
A mixture of formal and informal, with charming walled garden walks and spectacular woodland valley views. World famous for its Camellia Groves & Magnolias, noted for its Rhododendrons and Hydrangea collections.
Abbotsbury Swannery, Abbotsbury
For over 600 years this colony of friendly mute swans has made its home at the Abbotsbury Sanctuary. Sheltered by the famous Chesil Beach, this ancient and special site provides protection for hundreds of nesting swans and their broods. Incredibly, from the end of May, you can wander safely around the nests, observing at close quarters the antics of the fluffy cygnets.
Forde Abbey & Gardens, Chard
Home to the Roper family, Forde Abbey is surrounded by over 30 acres of world famous gardens. Founded by the Cistercian monks over 800 years ago it become one of the richest and most learned monasteries in the country. After the dissolution in 1539 the Abbey lay empty for 100 years, until in 1649 it was transformed into the magnificent house you see today. The Abbey now stands at the heart of a family run estate. Much of the food served in the restaurant is grown in the garden or on the estate.
The Keep Military Museum, Dorchester
The Devonshire Regiment, The Dorset Regiment, The Devonshire and Dorset Regiment, The Dorset Yeomanry, The Queen's Own Dorset Yeomanry, The Dorset Militia, The Royal Devon Yeomanry and 94 Field Regiment RA are all represented in the Keep Museum which underwent major refurbishment in 1995.

Built by Sir Walter Raleigh in 1594 and set in 20 acres of glorious landscaped gardens around a 50 acre lake, Sherborne Castle has been home to the Digby family since 1617 and contains a fine collection of pictures, porcelain and furniture.
