M5 (travelling south)

Leave the M5 at junction 25 (Taunton).

Take the A358 to Weymouth, Chard, Ilminster and RNAS Yeovilton.

In Chard take the A30 to Crewkerne (this is a left turn as you enter Chard, next to the DIY stores, it's a fairly insignificant turn, but it is signposted).

In Crewkerne follow A356 to Dorchester.

After 10-15 minutes you will pass the very large Rampisham Down World Service transmitting station on your right.

A mile after the final masts there is a small left turn to the cottages. We are about 200 yards up there on the left hand side. If you end up in Maiden Newton you've gone 2 miles too far!

M5 (travelling north)

From Exeter take the A30 to Honiton, then follow signs to Chard.

In Chard, follow the route as above.

A303

Follow the A303, past Andover, Stonehenge, etc..

Take the A37 turning to Yeovil (a few miles after RNAS Yeovilton).

Continue following the signs into Yeovil. In Yeovil, follow the signs to Dorchester A37.

At the 'Quicksilver Mail' pub roundabout. Follow the A37 for 10.5 miles.

Turn off right to Maiden Newton - signposted. Drive down into the village, about 1.9 miles.

In the village turn right at the 'T' junction, next to The Key Stores.

Upon leaving the village of Maiden Newton, proceed for 2 miles.

Turn right, at a small green triangle, signposted to Lancombe Farm.

The cottages will be found after a few hundred yards, at the top of the hill, on the left.

M3, M27

Follow the M3, south to Junction 14. Take the M27, West.

This turns into the A31. Follow this through Ringwood and continue on the A31.

Follow the A31, following the signs to Dorchester.

This turns into the A35, near Bere Regis, still signposted Dorchester.

As you reach Dorchester follow signs to Yeovil, which will take you round the by-pass.

At the 3rd roundabout take the A37, signposted to Yeovil.

Continue following the signs to Yeovil.

After the village of Grimstone, take the left-hand turning, onto the A356, signposted to Crewkerne, Frampton & Maiden Newton.

Go through both Frampton and Maiden Newton.

Upon leaving the village of Maiden Newton, proceed for 2 miles.

Turn right at a small green triangle.

The cottages will be found after a few hundred yards, at the top of the hill, on the left.

Note

The distance to Lancombe if you take the A303 just after Basingstoke is apparently only 1 mile different from staying on the M3 and coming father south round the M27. We would say the A303 is the more attractive route. Both routes can be particularly busy on a summer Saturday and both have single carriageway stretches. The A303 is probably more notorious for summer Saturday queues!
