Dog Friendly Pubs & Places to Eat

We have a wide and varied selection of pubs and restaurants that are dog friendly. There are so many amazing coastal and country walks, it’s only right that there should be somewhere for everyone to stop off and get refreshments!

So, I’ll start with the two closest pubs. We are fortunate to be situated exactly between two villages and there is a pub in each!

The Fox & Hounds in Cattistock is a wonderful quintessential country pub with an open fire and friendly locals… including a lot of four legged ones. The Fox & Hounds even serve dog beer! 😊 A lovely range of food is on offer here too.

The Chalk & Cheese in Maiden Newton. Again, a very dog friendly pub which serves ‘pub grub’ and in the summer there are two suntrap patio areas outside.

The Fox Inn in Corscombe. Corscombe is such a pretty village and just outside the pub runs the river Frome. The pub itself is amazing. As soon as you walk in you are welcomed as if you go there daily, by both the staff and the locals. There are two bar areas, one particularly cosy with a huge open fire.

There is the conservatory and a snug, perfect for a quiet meal. When you go, you must try their Faggots if they are on the menu, to absolutely die for, well not die or you wouldn’t get to taste them! 😊There is such a varied selection of specials each day, not pretentious or fancy and expensive, just tasty.

This is where myself, my family and members of our team celebrated our first Dorset Tourism Award. Of course, it’s dog friendly too!

The Acorn Inn – a multi award winner. The Acorn is situated in the pretty village of Evershot. Dogs are welcome in the Bar area, which offers a wonderful selection of tasty food and there’s a lovely open fire.

The Greyhound Inn – A larger pub which is set in Sydling St Nicholas, which is a fantastic setting. It has a great menu, yes you guessed it, dog friendly, welcoming and service is great. A lovely outdoor patio for basking in the Dorset sunshine too.

The Spyway – a great pub to stop off at on your way to our nearest very Dog Friendly Beach, set in the village of Askerswell. Stunning views across the doorstep, so needless to say there is lots of outdoor seating and play equipment for al fresco dining. Dogs are welcome in the bar area. It also means to get here, you get to enjoy my favourite view of all time, Eggardon Hill. A narrow road at times, but lots of passing places/stop off points and very worth it!

The Saxon Arms – a lovely pub where dogs are welcome in the bar area. Situated in the village of Stratton, so you can stop off on your way to one of the lovely walks near Dorchester….or to refresh before you get back to your cottage or lodge. A varied menu to suit everyone and outdoor seating. Very welcoming and food great.

Hive Beach Café – Hive Beach is a very dog friendly beach where dogs are allowed to run to their hearts content off the lead any time of the year. On this beach is the joint inspiration for Debbie Johnson’s series of books, The Hive Beach Café. A very dog friendly café, which also serves up dog treats, excellent fish dishes and slabs of cake…yes SLABS!

Aura Café – a lovely café in Weymouth. Now if you want dog friendly, this is the place to come! At the weekend, it IS a dog café, yep you heard right, a café FOR DOGS!

Enjoy and see you for a bite to eat soon 🙂
